India is a diverse land with prosperity all around which proves to be a home to many exclusive features such as rich cultural heritage, strong political background, varied topography with spectacular diversity of flora and fauna, mystically charming natural wonders, exclusive lifestyle and many more such exceptional features. Apart from these wonderful aspects of India, it is widely recognized as a sacred land as it shelters many religions and accommodates a myriad of religious places. Rishikesh is among such religious places of India which holds a great spiritual significance. This holy place serves as a Gateway to Himalayas in the Tehri - Garhwal region of Uttar Pradesh which is famous for comprising various pilgrimage sites. It is a small town in Dehradun district at the northern state of Uttarakhand in India. The word Rishikesh actually means the 'Lord of the Senses' which specifically stands for Lord Vishnu.

Rishikesh Holidays Rishikesh holds a lot of religious significance as it serves as an entrance to the famous pilgrimages sites known as the Char Dhams which includes shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, & Yamunotri. The ancient history states the presence of Rishikesh in the legendary 'Kedarkhand' region. And mythological scriptures states that Lord Rama after he beheaded the devil Ravana practiced penance at this place that is why the place holds such religious significance. Lord Rama's brother Laxman crossed the river Ganga which led to the construction of the popular 'Laxman Jhula'. This exclusive 'Jhula' was initially made up of jute rope but as this rope bridge was quite unsafe it was then replaced with an iron belt and made a stronger rope bridge in 1889 which was again rebuilt because of the floods in 1924 that damaged the bridge. This bridge was then transformed into a stronger suspension bridge having a strong engineering labour and since then it is serving as the major tourist attraction of this place, a lot of people visit here to have a walk on this exclusive bridge. Gita Bhawan, Neelkanth Mahadev, Triveni Ghat and Swarg Ashram are some of the other prime shrines of the place.

It is not just famous for its spiritual significance but also known for comprising some exclusive natural splendor with majestically rushing river Ganges under the foothills of Himalayas. Rishikesh even offers some of the thrilling adventure sports which are a completely opposite aspect of Rishikesh which is mostly known for pilgrimage sites. Trekking, River crossing and White water rafting is among the best of thrilling adventure activities that Rishikesh offers to its visitors who have a keen interest in adventure sports.

Rishikesh is known as the yoga capital also as it embodies some great yoga and meditation centre and even some private universities that offer short term yoga courses that attracts a myriad of international as well as domestic tourists. People have also designated this place as the World Capital of Yoga because this Rishikesh serves the best means of studying and learning yoga, meditation and some other spiritual activities. The place provides immense peace and tranquility to its visitors while rejuvenating their souls.
